Annual Picnic 2008

June 22, 2008
Bethpage State Park, New York

Bethpage State Park, a mecca for public golf featuring five 18-hole regulation golf courses including the world-renowned Black Course which was the site of the United States Open in 2002, will again host the U.S. Open in 2009. Bethpage State Park was developed from an estate owned by the Yoakum family and other properties. The Yoakum family leased their estate to the Lenox Hills Corporation which subsequently used the property to build the Lenox Hills Country Club. In the early 1930s, the Bethpage Park Authority purchased the Lenox Hills Country Club and other adjacent properties to build what we now know as Bethpage State Park. Famed golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast was hired to design and oversee construction of three new golf courses (Black, Red and Blue) as well as modify the Lenox Hills Course which became the Green Course. Due to the increased demand for golf, the Yellow Course designed by Alfred Tull was opened in 1958. Approximately 300,000 rounds are played annually on the five courses at Bethpage, all of which start from the Clubhouse area.

Annual Convention 2008

August 8-10, 2008
Hudson Valley Resort & Spa, New York

The theme of this year’s convention is Pharmacy Profession in the USA and Bangladesh. Pharmacy education started in Bangladesh in the 60’s. Unfortunately, Pharmacist profession in Bangladesh is yet to be defined. We all know how medicines are dispensed in Bangladesh and needless to repeat what we all know. Although there is no statistics about the impact of uncontrolled dispensing on public health, we are sure this gap in Bangladesh healthcare system is causing wide varieties of healthcare problems. On the other hand, despite significant growth of pharmaceutical manufacturing industry in Bangladesh, supply of safe, effective and quality medicines is not fully defined as required.

There are 180 plus pharmaceutical manufacturers that are actively producing varieties of medicines in Bangladesh. It is a common public opinion that quality of medicines from many of these companies is not adequate. We think BAPA should initiate a process to study these situations along with experts in these areas in the US and Bangladesh, Pharmacy Graduates Association, Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society, and the Government agencies; develop strategies to address any gap there may be, and propose solutions to the Government of Bangladesh and other stakeholders. Proposed solutions need to be feasible for Bangladesh. So, the Executive Committee of BAPA has decided to invite pharmaceutical industry experts, academia, and policy makers from the US and Bangladesh to this year’s BAPA Annual Convention to discuss and develop strategies to address these issues.

Set amid 400 acres of majestic landscapes and surrounded by the fabled Shawangunk Mountains and adjacent to Minnewaska State Park. We are located only 20 minutes from New Paltz or Kingston, New York. Hudson Valley Resort & Spa offers the perfect balance of charm and comfort.

Early bird registration needs to be mailed by June 29, 2008. The deadline for registration is July 31, 2008. BAPA will not guarantee availability of rooms after the deadline for registration. Cancellations can be made until July 31, 2008 without penalty. No refund will be made on cancellations after July 31, 2008.

Picnic 2007

2007 annual picnic was held on June 17, 2007. We went to Heckscher State Park, which is no more than 50 miles from Manhattan and the highway leading to it, conveniently bears the Park's name. The park had twenty miles of trails that attract hikers, bicycle and cross-country skiers. Swimmers used the Great South Bay or the swimming pool complex. There were picnic areas, a boat launch ramp, playing fields, playground and 69 camp sites.

As usual, there were lots of sports, plenty of food and some memorable moments. There were scores of trails to suit all levels of fitness, and paths for bicycles, horses and cross-country skiing. Delectable scenery was common to every route that people may have choosen within the Park. There were playgrounds for children. To satisfy the shopping spirit of our ladies, even a garments stall was set up. Finally, dads were recognized for their hard work, love and support for the family.
